Advancements in technology are improving dental precision and allowing greater comfort during treatment. New techniques are refining existing procedures and creating all-new treatment alternatives. The capacity to identify issues sooner, while they're small, means less-invasive treatment and faster recovery times. At de Bruin Dental Center, we can't wait to share these new innovations with our patients.
Dr. de Bruin works with the cutting edge in X-ray technology. Digital images of your mouth are captured by inserting a special sensor. The results are then downloaded straight into our computer. We can also see your complete mouth as one image, including the upper and lower jaws, using our panoramic digital X-ray machine. This way Dr. de Bruin can immediately begin gauging the current state of your oral health, starting with the bone structure. Plus, all the data can be conveniently stored and later overlaid with more current X-rays to make your treatment advances more apparent, along with overall changes to your dental health. Not only do these techniques permit us more options than conventional X-rays, but they do it all while subjecting you to 75% less radiation than traditional captures and using no harmful developing chemicals.
As you make choices regarding your ongoing oral health, Dr. de Bruin believes you should have access to all the information available. To make this possible, he uses a high-tech tool known as the intra-oral camera. This state-of-the-art video system provides a detailed look at the interior of your mouth, producing zoomed-in images on a display screen. Now, you can see what work needs to be completed and which teeth are doing fine. You'll be thrilled by what you can see!
Isolite is an impressive combination of spotlight and suction device that illuminates the interior of your mouth while keeping your teeth and gums dry. Better lighting and a drier work area improve accuracy. Treatments can proceed faster, helping you stay on schedule. The use of the Isolite tool lessens mouth strain. You won't have to endure a bulky rubber dam. In addition, the suction limits saliva build-up and the swallowing of debris, so you'll no longer be subjected to a "drowning" or "gagging" sensation. You will adore this transformation in dental comfort!
Have you ever had a dentist discover a giant new cavity that demanded an equally large filling? Weren't you curious how it was possible, when the cavity didn't even exist on your last six-month check-up? Unfortunately, cavities in the early stages are sometimes too tiny to be seen on X-rays or with a visual inspection. This is why Dr. de Bruin uses a laser scanner to expose cavities in their earliest stages: at a point when they can be repaired with only a small filling. The laser scanner can reveal previously invisible decay and, once identified, allow him to remove the discomfort and preserve your healthy smile.
You'll be impressed by the Piezo Scaler™. At de Bruin Dental Center, we can use it to eliminate deposits of plaque and calculus (tartar) from your teeth. This hand tool incorporates high-frequency vibrations to assist us in removing deposits on your teeth faster than with regular scaling instruments. It works especially well under the gumline and even in deep pockets, as is often necessary for the treatment of gum disease. Not only will your teeth feel cleaner than ever before, but most of our patients report less discomfort from the Piezo Scaler.
X-rays work better in three dimensions.
With 3-D cone beam CT digital imaging technology, we can be FAR more accurate
than is possible with conventional flat X-rays, and we can do it in less time
and with much less radiation exposure. The great advantage of using ultra cone
beam images when analyzing a patient's treatment options is Dr. de Bruin's
ability to clearly see a patient's anatomy as it really exists. Suddenly, all
the bone structure and how it fits together is plainly visible. This brings
about greater treatment precision, especially for implant placement and oral
Dr. de Bruin has had great success with the revolutionary early detection systems available for oral cancer. Using either the ViziLite™ or the VELscope™ screening system, he shines a unique light into your mouth to see if there is any cause for concern. With approximately 29,000 new cases of oral cancer diagnosed last year, a quick and painless oral cancer assessment can be more than just a good idea. When oral cancer is revealed at an early stage, treatment is quicker, easier, less invasive, and 90% successful. So, not only are these methods painless, they might just save your life.

Has your dentist ever requested for you to bite down on what appears to be a piece of carbon paper? This is one way the dentist can check your "occlusion" or how your teeth fit together. Improper alignment can develop into pain in the teeth, muscles, and jaw joints. It can also trigger fractures in teeth and crowns or lead to nighttime teeth grinding. Adjusting the teeth to align properly can be incredibly complicated, since interference as thin as a human hair can create difficulties. That's why Dr. de Bruin is excited to be one of the first dental practices in the country to use an ultramodern instrument called the Tekscan™. This computerized bite evaluation ensures your teeth are appropriately aligned so you won't have the complications that come with a "bad bite."
At de Bruin Dental Center, we're serious about sterilization. In addition to scouring and sterilizing all instruments after every use, single-use implements are used where required. Our instruments are sterilized after each use with a special device called an autoclave, which is consistently monitored by an impartial lab to safeguard the highest level of safety and cleanliness. Your well-being is too important to us to take even the smallest risk.
Well, that's simple. It's EXTREMELY important. Without suitable sterilization of water lines, it's possible to spread contaminants, which can be hazardous. Here at de Bruin Dental Center we take this very seriously. We use a system called DentaPure™. It's the identical purification system used on the space shuttle and the International Space Station. This innovative system keeps our water lines free from likely contaminants.
Dental lasers are FDA-approved and deliver an exciting means to alleviate discomfort during dental procedures. Treatments that used to require scalpels or incisions can now be accomplished with a laser. Less-invasive methods equate to better-quality results and speedier healing. We can cosmetically treat irregular gummy smile lines, clean and shape swollen tissue around crowns, stop gum disease, and heal painful canker sores and mouth ulcers with prompt relief. The results are simply amazing!
